CNN —There are plenty of reasons why many health professionals don’t want you on a restrictive diet. But how do you know when a diet is restrictive or when you are just making choices with health or longevity in mind? In those cases that aren’t as clear-cut, here are three questions to ask yourself about your diet, Rollin and Mokari said. Feeling as if you can’t control yourself around particular foods might be a sign that you are being too restrictive in your diet, Rollin said. And that can be physically restrictive by not allowing yourself to eat the food or mentally restrictive by shaming yourself while eating it and afterward, she said.

Orthorexia: The clean eating disorder

It was 20 years of an eating disorder and the anxiety and stress that comes with it culminating into one moment, he said. But clinicians are seeing a rise in orthorexia among patients, said therapist Jennifer Rollin, founder of The Eating Disorder Center in Rockville, Maryland. Orthorexia is a fixation on eating “clean,” as defined by a set of rules dependent on certain individuals and the context they live in, said Dr. Jennifer Gaudiani, an eating disorder physician and founder and medical director of the Gaudiani Clinic in Denver. When looking at therapy, check for not only an eating disorder specialist, but one with experience with orthorexia, Rollin said. People with orthorexia may find themselves with a team that includes therapists and dietitians, similar to patients in treatment for other eating disorders, Rollin said.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Supporters of Israel rallied by the thousands on the National Mall under heavy security Tuesday, voicing solidarity in the fight against Hamas and crying “never again." The Homeland Security Department designated the march a “level 1” security event, the highest classification in its system and one usually used for the Super Bowl and other major events, two law enforcement officials told The Associated Press. The designation means the event required substantial law enforcement assistance from federal agencies, the officials said. The officials were not authorized to discuss details of the law enforcement bulletin publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. Many of the demonstrators at the “March for Israel” wore Israeli flags wrapped around their shoulders, flowing behind them, or held small Israeli flags in their hands.

Choice Hotels International is asking shareholders of rival chain Wyndham Hotels & Resorts to sign off on a buyout worth nearly $8 billion after Wyndham broke off negotiations, the company said Tuesday. Choice's proposal allows Wyndham shareholders to choose either cash, stock, or a combination of cash and stock. Choice first approached Wyndham in April, offering $80.00 per share, with 40% of that cash and 60% Choice stock, but was rejected, Choice said. But, according to Choice, Wyndham voiced concerns about regulatory approval in September and also the value of Choice stock. Shares of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Inc. jumped more than 15% before the opening bell Tuesday, to $82.40.

Higher yields on certificates of deposit are out there, but you'll have to venture beyond your favorite bank to get them. "There could be as much as a 50-basis point difference going to a brokered CD," he said. Brokered vs. bank offerings With a bank CD, the investor goes directly to the institution to buy the instrument. For instance, brokered CDs purchased via Vanguard begin at 1 to 3 months and go out beyond 10 years. The value of the CD will fluctuate with interest rates, with the price declining as yields run higher.

Opinion | To Prosecute or Not to Prosecute Trump

To the Editor:Re “The Prosecution of Trump May Have Terrible Consequences,” by Jack Goldsmith (Opinion guest essay, Aug. 10), about the charges brought by Jack Smith:Mr. Goldsmith argues that the prosecution of Mr. Trump will further erode the already diminished belief that Republicans have in our justice system and may “inspire tit-for-tat investigations of presidential actions by future Congresses and by administrations of the opposing party.”He may be correct. But the integrity of our democracy is at stake. As the New York University law professors Ryan Goodman and Andrew Weissman have written, “To not have brought this case against Mr. Trump would have been an act of selective nonprosecution” because so many foot soldiers have been prosecuted for their Jan. 6 attempt to disrupt our government. To the Editor:Jack Goldsmith studiously ignores a key factor of this disputed topic. While he details concerns about prosecuting Mr. Trump, he does not touch on the toxic consequences of not prosecuting.

In this photo illustration, packages of Mifepristone tablets are displayed at a family planning clinic on April 13, 2023 in Rockville, Maryland. House Democrats on Thursday called on Walmart, Costco , Kroger , Safeway and Health Mart to publicly commit to sell the prescription abortion pill mifepristone at their retail pharmacies. Goldman and Rep. Judy Chu, D-Calif., sent a letter asking the companies' CEOs to confirm by June 23 whether their pharmacies will get certified to sell the abortion pill. Democratic governors and senators asked the companies in March whether their pharmacies will get certified to dispense the medication. The largest retail pharmacies in the U.S. have found themselves increasingly caught in the middle of the national battle over abortion access, which was set in motion by the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade last June.

What body neutrality means and how to get there
  + stars: | 2023-05-29 | by ( Madeline Holcombe | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +7 min
What is body neutrality? If body positivity is celebrating your body, body neutrality is not thinking about it much at all. “Body neutrality really takes that focus away altogether … and advocates for really focusing on other things.”While that may seem like a bit of a letdown compared with the concept of positivity, body neutrality is beneficial because the aim is not to tie self-worth to what a body looks like or even what it can do. “This concept of body neutrality really hit home,” she said. Body neutrality roadblocks and strategiesCampos likes to think of the ongoing relationship people have with their bodies as an archeological dig.
The abortion pill mifepristone is either banned or restricted to varying degrees in 27 states despite a Supreme Court decision that — for now — maintains Food and Drug Administration regulations allowing easy access to the medication. The Supreme Court, acting on an emergency basis, last week blocked lower federal court orders that had imposed severe restrictions on mifepristone even in some states where abortion remains legal. The side that loses at the appeals courts is certain to ask the Supreme Court to take the case to make a final determination on the legality of the FDA rules. Patients previously were required by FDA to obtain mifepristone in-person from a health-care provider or take the medication under their supervision. While the Supreme Court's decision at least temporarily maintains access to mifepristone in states that support broad access to abortion, it will have less or no impact in conservative states that banned the procedure since last summer, when the high court overturned the half-century-old federal constitutional right to abortion.
Some in-person clinics in New York, California and Kansas will offer mifepristone for now, but are preparing to provide an alternative abortion pill if a subsequent decision essentially bans the drug. U.S. abortion pill providers are scrambling to make backup plans as the Supreme Court decides whether to keep restrictions on the key drug mifepristone. Those restrictions will limit access to mifepristone even in states where abortion is legal. Some in-person abortion clinics in states where the procedure is legal told CNBC that operations will remain largely the same. Other clinics in states where abortion is legal can prescribe mifepristone off-label beyond the first seven weeks of pregnancy, according to Hill.
The Justice Department and the abortion pill distributor Danco Laboratories on Friday asked the Supreme Court to block an order that threatens access to mifepristone, an escalation of a legal fight that could make it harder to undergo the procedure nationwide. But the appeals court voted 2-1 to temporarily reimpose restrictions on mifepristone, which will significantly limit access to the drug even in states where abortion is legal. Mifepristone, used in combination with another drug called misoprostol, is the most common method to terminate a pregnancy in the U.S., accounting for about half of all abortions. Misoprostol, which is used a standalone abortion drug in other parts of the world, is not impacted by the lower court rulings. Prelogar said the lower court rulings would immediately make all doses of mifepristone misbranded because their labelling would not be consistent with the FDA's original approval.
How a spousal IRA worksA spousal IRA is a separate account, meaning both spouses can contribute to their own IRAs. And many couples aren't aware of spousal IRA contributions, according to Julie Hall, a CFP at Vision Capital Partners in Ann Arbor, Michigan. But you can still score a deduction for pre-tax IRA contributions, assuming you qualify based on income and workplace retirement plan participation. Of course, the decision about whether to make pre-tax or Roth IRA contributions hinges on more than just the current year's tax break, Hall added. Spousal IRA contributions in retirement
You can make your 2022 IRA contribution through the April tax deadline in 2023, as long as you designate the deposit for tax year 2022. However, it gets more complicated if either partner has retirement plan coverage at work and participates in the plan. With a workplace plan, some or all of your contributions may not be deductible, depending on earnings. For 2022, single investors with a workplace retirement plan may claim a tax break for their entire IRA contribution if their modified adjusted gross income is $68,000 or less. How to know if a pretax IRA contribution makes sense

Over three dozen Regal Cinemas locations in the US are expected to close. Cineworld detailed the plan to reject the leases starting February 15 in a new bankruptcy filing on Tuesday. Regal is the second-largest cinema chain in the US, behind AMC, with over 500 theaters. The company's plan to close locations during its bankruptcy is fairly routine. Cineworld filed for bankruptcy at a time when the larger theatrical industry is struggling to fully rebound from the pandemic.
A group of video game testers is forming Microsoft’s first labor union in the U.S., which will also be the largest in the video game industry. Communications Workers of America said Tuesday that about 300 quality-assurance workers at Microsoft video game subsidiary ZeniMax Studios have voted to join the union. The unionization campaign was sparked, in part, by Microsoft’s ongoing bid to buy California-based game giant Activision Blizzard. Microsoft, which is based in Redmond, Washington, made a June pact with the CWA union to stay neutral if Activision Blizzard workers sought to form a union. Microsoft’s legally binding agreement specifically applied to Activision Blizzard workers after the closing of the merger.
